Hinterland Magazine is excited to announce a new creative nonfiction writing prize — The Hinterland Prize 2019.
We’ve partnered with literary agency AM Heath and the University of East Anglia to find the best new creative non-fiction. Stories can be from any genre of creative non-fiction, from biography and memoir to travel, science, food and more — so long as it’s rooted in the tenets of creative non-fiction, we’ll consider it. Entries can be up to 5000 words (no minimum) and must not have been previously published or awarded a prize. We’ll be reading all submissions blind, so please make sure you don’t include your name anywhere in your submission.
- The winner will receive £500 and a mentoring session with AM Heath Literary Agency.
- The second-placed entry will receive £200.
- The third-placed entry will receive £100.
All three prize-winning entries will be published in Hinterland Issue 3 - Autumn 2019, out 1st November. Winners will be notified early September.
The prize will be judged by Kathryn Hughes, award-winning author, journalist and Professor of Life Writing at the University of East Anglia; Euan Thorneycroft, literary agent at AM Heath; and the Editors of Hinterland accompanied by a review panel to include recent graduates of UEA’s famed Creative Writing program.
We charge a £5 entry fee per entry.
The deadline is 12 noon (GMT) on Thursday 2nd July 2019
